Nigeria Office for Philanthropy and Impact Investing (NPO)

Established in 2024 within the Office of the Vice President, the Nigeria Office for Philanthropy & Impact Investing (NPO) is a private sector-led platform that mobilises philanthropic capital and impact investments to advance Nigeria’s job creation agenda. The NPO focuses on providing catalytic support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in sectors such as fashion, agribusiness, renewable energy, and furniture production, all of which hold high potential for job creation. By collaborating with donors, financial institutions, foundations, and impact investors, the Office aims to deploy $200 million in financing for startups, targeting the creation of one million new jobs over the next four years. Additionally, the NPO works to foster both local and international partnerships while promoting inclusive economic development with an emphasis on gender equity and regional representation.

Highlights

  • Strategic Focus on High-Impact Sectors for Job Creation in Nigeria: The NPO launched I-Philanthropy, an innovative online platform that connects global donors directly with startups in the fashion, sustainable agribusiness, renewable energy, and furniture production sectors. By facilitating these connections, the NPO is helping to generate jobs while addressing both local and global sustainability needs. The 100 Companies Partnership for Job Creation in Nigeria, another significant initiative, brings together 100 businesses and foundations, each committing a minimum of ₦10 million to support startups. For more detailed information on NPO’s activities and initiatives, the NPO’s 2024 annual report provides an in-depth overview of its accomplishments and strategic impact.

  • Key role of GSG’s National Partner in Nigeria: The Impact Investors Foundation (IIF) is a key member of the implementing committee for the Nigeria Office for Philanthropy and Impact Investing (NPO). IIF supports NPO in establishing legislation for philanthropy and impact investing in Nigeria. The Foundation also plays an active role in fostering partnerships and facilitating discussions on impact investing, with the Chairperson participating in events such as the 2nd West Africa Deal Summit and the 7th Annual Convening on Impact Investing, organised by IIF.
